The deputy was nearly struck at the intersection of 84th Avenue and Lake Michigan Drive in Allendale Township shortly before 3 a.m. Friday.

The teen drove away from the scene, but later lost control of his car and crashed it into a ditch off 84th Avenue near Fillmore Street. He fled on foot through a cornfield, but deputies caught up to him and used a Taser gun to subdue him.

The injured 17-year-old was taken to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, where he was listed in serious condition later Friday, said Sgt. Matt Wildfong of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department.

The teen's name was not released pending charges. Alcohol and drug use is unknown at this time, Wildfong said.

so this 17 year old kid is in spectrum in serious condition, it must have been reall easy to run him down and oyea TASE HIM I am sure that was nessary given his injureys..but the good o boys Sheriffs always get ther kid.The way they pick on the kids in this county is out of control no wonder they hate them!

Good point.

Let's see, first he almost KILLED the officer by running him down then he crashed his car. Then he was able to flee the scene so he must have been well enough to run! If you run you get what you deserve in my opinion. Now if he had not done any of that and was just a teenager doing what teenagers do sometimes and got in a little trouble then I think yes, sometimes the officers should be more lenient. The problem is liability. These days the little darlings go running to momma and poppa (especially in Ottawa County) and then it is the Officer they want in trouble for doing his JOB! So you see, they have to cover their butts too. So his "serious condition" was created all by himself I imagine and the tazer only stopped him in his tracks long enough for him to get the help he needed so as not to hurt anyone else. He was obviously way out of control.
