The National Weather Service has posted a winter weather advisory for Ottawa County and most of west and central Michigan until 10 p.m. Saturday.

East winds will blow at about 20 mph through Saturday, producing some blowing and drifting snow.

Forecasters say we can expect as much as 6 inches of snow by Saturday evening, with locally higher amounts possible in southwestern Michigan.

Roads will become snow-covered and slick, visibilities will be reduced at times, and drifting snow will impact snow-plowing efforts on north-south roads in open areas.

The forecast for the Grand Haven area:

Saturday: Snow. High near 23. East wind 13 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New snow accumulation of around 3 inches.

Saturday night: A 50 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a low around 18. East-northeast wind 5 to 9 mph becoming west-northwest after midnight.

Sunday: Snow showers. High near 23. West-northwest wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New snow accumulation of less than 1 inch possible.
