Winter weather advisory

Roads are snow-covered and slick tonight, creating hazardous driving conditions.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 1 a.m. Friday for Ottawa, Muskegon, Mason, Lake, Oceana and Newaygo counties.

The National Weather Service says snow will continue into the evening, with accumulations of 2-4 inches expected before it ends shortly after midnight.

In addition, winds will gust to around 30 mph at times to cause blowing and drifting snow. The winds will shift from the south to west tonight.

Near whiteout visibilities will be possible at times, with snow-covered and slippery roads.

The Michigan Department of Transportation reminds motorists to adjust speeds based on the conditions, and to take it slow in ice and snow.

The forecast for the Grand Haven area:

Tonight: Snow showers. Low around 21. South-southwest wind 13 to 16 mph becoming west in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 24 mph. Total nighttime snow accumulation of around 2 inches.

Friday: Snow showers. High near 26. West-southwest wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New snow accumulation of around 2 inches.
