#1. Harvard study: Single parents a hindrance to social mobility

A new study from Harvard University on the ability of low-income children to achieve social mobility found that the largest hindrance to moving up the income ladder is being raised by a single parent.

Further, the study found that “[children] of married parents also have higher rates of upward mobility if they live in communities with fewer single parents.”

The study found the prevalence of single parents to be a much larger factor in determining social mobility than income inequality

Holy cow vlad you have something to add that isnt right wing rhetoric! Or is it? Either way I did find this one interesting.

Lanivan

Of course it's right wing rhetoric!! Obama was raised by his single, divorced mother, and her parents. That makes Obama "The Other", pathologically deficient, damaged for life, and unfit for the presidency.

Barry Soetoro

You catch on quick.

Lanivan

It's a skill I've learned, among many others, from our very own "regional treasure", Vladtheimp.

LessThanAmused

"Regional Treasure" LOL!!

I think I better go to the emergency room, I think I just pulled something laughing that hard......be back later, owww, owww, owwww.......

Lanivan

As much as I would love to take credit for this quote, it is from another poster several months ago - you know, a member of Vlad's Fan Club (similar to Mickey Mouse Fan Club).

I feel awful if I've caused you any pain!...maybe a nice lunch from Arturo's will help you get better fast?!

LessThanAmused

Somebody actually said that with a straight face??? Bwwaaaa haaaa haaahhaaaa.....oww, owww, owwwww. Dang it, there it goes again. At least now I've got enough meds to get thru the weekend.....

Are you buying lunch at Arturo's or just suggesting I go by myself?? Maybe you could get the "regional treasure" to meet up with us there? Wouldn't that be a party?? :-)

Barry Soetoro

I suggested a Beer Summit a few pages back. How 'bout it?

bigdeal

In your underground bunker wearing our tin hats?

Lanivan

I'd love a beer summit, although not a big beer drinker myself, but do occasionally like a small glass of Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale. I'll wear my Republicans For Obama pin. Boy - can't wait to see the looks on you guys' faces when you recognize me from the Dining Diva's photo!!

(j/k - don't get your boxers in a bunch...)

Barry Soetoro

I knew it!

bigdeal

Barry bringing the choom?

Barry Soetoro

...and maybe a little blow...if I can afford it...

Vladtheimp

Hey, It's the Year of War on Women - should be Don't Get Your Panties in a Bunch. . . . But, of course, this is all a distraction from the Harvard study that income inequality has little to do with the performance of girls and boys and income mobility - it has to do with marital status and community - Good Try!

Awww, you regional treasure you.......still going for the "all solutions have only one problem eh? Wouldn't life be wonderful if everything was as simple as just black and white?

Regional treasure....some village back East is still looking for their idi.....well, you know.

Tri-cities realist

Speaking of black and white, during the SOTU did anyone else wonder which one was Obama and which was Boehner? John needs to lay off the fake and bake, as if smoking isn't enough of a cancer risk.

bigdeal

Boehner came out as black...http://www.huffingtonpost.com/le...

Tri-cities realist

"reached around to the gay community." Too funny!

LessThanAmused

Sorry, I don't drink, but if I can have a coke without y'all getting uptight about me NOT drinking, I'm there.

bigdeal

Nah, we'll just tell you that stuff will clean car battery connections. I'm not much for beer either, but I will bring some homemade wine.

LessThanAmused

LOL! It does a great job on pennies too!
