Study: Bathroom wait longer for women at hall

A study confirms women wait much longer than men to use the bathroom at a Grand Rapids theater, and achieving potty parity could be expensive.

A study by Progressive Architecture Engineering finds women's average waiting and use time was 14 minutes during intermission at a DeVos Performance Hall show last fall. It took four minutes for men.

One solution costing $69,000 would add five toilet stalls to a 10-stall women's restroom. Another suggestion — adding 10 stalls through conversion and construction — would cost $295,000.

Broadway Grand Rapids Executive Director Mike Lloyd tells the Grand Rapids/Kent County Convention and Arena Authority he hopes changes come soon. Broadway Grand Rapids brings popular touring shows to the city.

The study was prepared for the authority.

This is nice. I am available to be paid to give testimony that there is always, always, without question or exception, a longer wait at women's restrooms than men's restrooms.

Sheesh! C'mon people!

Lani, before I even opened the article I knew you'd be all over it.
Happy International Women's Day! Best wishes in your crusade to right this wrong!

Lanivan

International Women's Day? Just great - it's bad enough we have to alienate and reject American men with an exclusive celebratory day of honoring women, we must extend the reach to global proportions. Next, Vlad will be including sexism along with racialism and statist influences contributing to the collapse of modern conservative exceptionalism, with the impingement on men's Constitutional Rights by the expansion of women's bathroom stalls - and probably done with Union Labor!

Meanwhile, thank you, Barry, for your kind words and generous support during my crusade to right this truly despicable wrong that impacts not just women, but the men they happen to be with when they need those bathrooms!!

And of course there's a t-shirt for that...

Inappropriate? Alert Us?

Hmmmm.

Lanivan

Very appropriate, if possibly teetering on off-topicness. Kudos to you, LTA, for your fashion forward and politically astute t-shirt selection that is a great equivalent to TPing Barry S's house.....;-D

Thank you, you're comment made me smile. It's been a long time since I T.P'd anybody's house. :-)

Lanivan

Oh yeah - now we're talkin'. This shirt will make quite a splash in these parts when I begin my Drain Commissioner campaign. By the way, any chance you'd come on board and be my campaign manager and procurer of t-shirts?

Barry Soetoro

It needs some customizing but I'm already on it...

You will be representing the Natural Law Party correct??

Lanivan

Do you have to declare a party for Drain commissioner?

Sweet t-shirt, naturally, but at $31.35 for a (skimpy) t-shirt and the saying "Putting taxpayers first", I'm getting mixed signals here.

Stop drinking so much and you won't have to go so much! :-S

Lanivan

Who are you kiddin'? Just looking at a can of Bud Lite Lime makes me run to the loo. Power of suggestion.....:'-S

LessThanAmused

Bud Lite Lime??

Ack!

How about a nice clear cold glass of apple juice? Much better for the geriatric set. And before you start spittin' and sputterin', I drink at least one glass a day. Helps keep the doctors away. :-)

Lanivan

Geriatric set?!!! Oh well....I must learn to accept my station in life, I suppose. But before you start preaching to the choir, I chose BLL (loo - alliteration - oh well, if I have to explain it....) simply because it has a nice ring to it. Truth be told, once my morning coffee regimen is over, it's just water/ unsweetened iced tea with lemon or Lady Grey tea for me, with only an occasional "deviation". See I told ya - blah....

Barry Soetoro

Lotta off-topic stuff here. Just sayin'.

We're building community here bub, back off. :-S

Lanivan

>*_*<

LessThanAmused

uh huh....I can't get upset cuz I'm not sure I understand??

Lanivan

Neither could I, to be honest. I fixed it right up.....

Bee

Life is rough.

Lanivan

You might need to look into a different toilet paper....

Tri-cities realist

Good one!

EINSTEIN

When is International Men's Day......anyone out there know?

LessThanAmused

LOL! like there'd ever be one of those...... :-S

I was at the Grand Haven City Marina years ago before the nice facilities were built. The line to the women's rest room was probably 30 people deep. When I went to the men's room, a lady came out of the stall and apologized for being in there but could not wait. I felt sorry for her and the other women.

Truth Be Told

The war on women continues-it's not fair men can P faster...
The females at my home take forever in the restroom too...
This isn't bathroom discrimination, don't need spend money.

Women need to use the room faster and get out. Women us the restrooms for more than reliving themselves, there's make-up, brush hair, wait for girl friend..women s restrooms are like social gathering places.

I've heard rumors they have couches in Ladies rooms!

Guys can get in and out much faster. We even have rules against eye contact and speaking during the rituals. A lot of men also cut time off by not washing their hands!
