Jeff and Kathy Johnson of Grand Haven said they wanted to find something fun and positive about the long, hard winter season. The idea started with a post on Kathy's Facebook page: “I think we should have T-shirts made that say: ‘I survived the winter of 2013-2014!’ Anybody want to work on that? I don't want them to be white, since we have seen enough of that color!”
The Apparel Sales Co. was contacted about design and printing, and a group of residents worked with him to fine-tune the final design.
Kathy said she wanted to create the T-shirts because of the toll the 2013-14 winter had on area residents.
“It's been a tough winter for a lot of people,” she said. “Whether emotional, financial or falls on the ice, a lot of people are discouraged. I just wanted to make a positive out of this.
“This is for everybody who has had a long, dark winter and are anxious for smells, sounds and light of spring,” she added.
The T-shirts are $10, and they are available at Stack's, Pfaff's Pharmacy and Aluminum Mule in Grand Haven. Funds from the T-shirt sales will go toward lighting Bolt Park and the Beechtree Street corridor for the 2014-15 winter season.
