The fund is named in honor of Mary Ann Rutherford, who taught for 16 years at the Learning Tree Preschool. Rutherford’s career at the Y touched more than 600 local children.
Dedication ceremonies were held Wednesday.
Tri-Cities Family YMCA Executive Director Dean Buntley said because classes fill quickly, so do requests for financial assistance.
“It’s also part of the Y’s mission to provide services to anyone in need regardless of their ability to pay,” Buntley said. “And, as this scholarship fund grows, we’ll be able to provide more assistance specifically for preschool families.”
