The river still remains within major flood stage, but that steady improvement through the weekend and into early next week makes it likely the level will go below the 12-foot flood stage by Tuesday.
"Dry weather is definitely helping the cause,” National Weather Service meteorologist Brandon Hoving said.
Gov. Rick Snyder on Thursday declared a state of disaster for Newaygo and Osceola counties.
A number of homes and roads were flooded in Evart and surrounding areas this week, forcing evacuations. Osceola County Emergency Program Director Mark Watkins said some of the resulting problems include road closures, floating propane tanks and damaged utilities.
