Detroit media reported that LaMar and Georgia Lemmons both filed paperwork to run for the 2nd District seat.

LaMar Lemmons is the president of the Detroit school board. He said he plans to withdraw from the Senate race and support his wife, a retired Detroit teacher.

Lemmons instead will focus his attention on running for re-election to the school board and seeking a seat on the Wayne County Commission.

Georgia Lemmons will have her work cut out for her. She's going up against two incumbent lawmakers in the Democratic primary: state Sen. Bert Johnson and state Rep. John Olumba.
