“The movie marathon is a significant event for the festival’s fundraising efforts and one of the most popular activities we host,” said festival Executive Director Mike Smith. “Everyone has a fun time trying to stay awake all night watching 24 hours of non-stop first-run movies while snacking on endless buckets of movie theater popcorn.”

The marathon begins at 6 p.m. Friday, March 2; and continues through 6 p.m. Saturday, March 3.

Participants, age 18 and older, must commit to collecting a minimum of $220 in pledges in order to attend this event, which is hosted by the Cinema Carousel Theater in Muskegon. The concession stand stays open throughout the night, pizza is served at midnight and a light breakfast is served in the morning.

Prizes are awarded to individuals who raise the most money. Prizes include a Coast Guard Festival basket — which includes two free tickets to every Waterfront entertainment event, Grand Haven and Coast Guard artwork, festival apparel, and overnight stays at area hotels. All donations go directly to the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival and are tax-deductible, Smith said.
