Rides, games and food vendors line Washington Avenue and along Harbor Drive through late Saturday night.

Sydney Verburg couldn’t contain her excitement about the Cobra Coaster after her first time around the tracks. The 4-year-old exclaimed that the small, snake-shaped roller coaster was an “awesome” ride within moments of its conclusion.

“I like the hills,” she said.

Although the young carnival-goer enjoyed the smaller ride, her older sister, Hayley, prefers the fast spinning of the Zero Gravity ride.

“Just because it’s really fast and awesome,” the 8-year-old said.

Spring Lake residents Chloe Lohman and Fayth Wilds said the best part about the downtown carnival is the games. The 10-year-olds both won large, plastic inflatable aliens after testing their strength at the Hi Striker game.

“(The worker) helps you every time,” Wilds said.

The Fun Slide’s bumpy slide provided fun for Evelyn Morris, who is visiting the Tri-Cities area from Kansas City. The 5-year-old attended the downtown carnival on Wednesday with Grand Haven resident Cate Garretson.

Garretson said the Zero Gravity ride is her favorite because of its fast motion.

“It’s just so fun,” she said. “I love fast and quick rides."

Ride and game tickets can be purchased at the carnival.
