Chlopan joined more than 300 other local seniors who answered questions about their post-high school plans.

In the fall, Chlopan will attend Purdue University and study aerospace engineering. The recent graduate said he’s wanted to enter that career field ever since he met astronauts and got a tour of NASA when he was younger.

Ah Tribune, I think you got that survey bassackwards. I believe all seniors are still teenagers, and once being a teenager myself in addition to raising three, and they in turn raised another seven, I would agree they will be hitting the ground running. But interviewing 300 and having only 24 admit they are not prepared for the next step after graduation is unrealistic. Most of them will be questioning themselves as they pursue a career path(s) before they find and achieve a fit. Those that believe they will be ready today were not born yesterday. One can only hope their generation will improve upon what previous generations seemed to screw up. Time will tell. Their work is just beginning, I wish them well.

Good luck Will, best wishes and enjoy engineering it's a wonderful profession of discovery.
