GH’s Science Olympians prep for national tournament

Grand Haven's Science Olympiad competitors are packing their bags to head for the national competition in Madison, Wis., on Saturday. The teams will head for the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison a few days ahead of time in order to practice, said Nate Mihalek, the head coach of the Lakeshore Middle School team. The Lakeshore and White Pines middle school teams will leave Thursday, while the Grand Haven High School leaves today. High school Science Olympians will leave a day earlier in order to go to clinics at the university, Mihalek said.

The high school students will go to one-hour events to hear presenters talk about areas of science.

“By the time we (the middle school teams) had gotten signed up, all those particular things had been accounted for,” Mihalek said. “There was no room for our students.
