Lakeshore 7th-graders get walking tour of Grand Haven

Seventh-graders from Lakeshore Middle School toughed out rain and temperatures in the 50s Thursday to walk to museums, municipal buildings and other Grand Haven landmarks as a way to learn about the city. The event, called "Walk Grand Haven,' is jointly organized by the middle school and the local Chamber of Commerce, seventh-grade teacher Skip Ackerson said. Ackerson and another teacher came up with the idea as a way to have a more local field trip, he said.

Sponsors of the event include Pizza Hut in Grand Haven, which provided lunch for the students; Dairy Treat; and the Grand Haven Fraternal Order of Eagles 925, which hosted the lunch at their headquarters at 20 N. Second St.

Stops on the walking tour included the Grand Haven Water Filtration Plant, Tri-Cities Historical Museum and the city’s Central Park.
