The school already offers a Young Fives program of five half-days a week to prepare students for its current kindergarten of three full days, and is also looking at adding a two-day section to round out the latter to a five-day option.
“We have the opportunity to give families more options and acknowledge that a 5-year-old child is still adjusting to a full school day schedule,” Geertsma said. “Parents know their children and know they may need more time to make the transition.”
Opening the five-day-per-week half-day section is contingent on enrollment of at least 10 students, Geertsma said.
“It’s early in our enrollment process, and we’ve already had a few families ask about a half-day option,” he said. “Our school board has approved the half-day section and is considering the two-full-day add-on with a 10 student minimum as well.”
The community is invited to an open house at the school on March 20 for more information. For details, visit http://grandhavenchristian.org or call 842-5420.
