As students across the state enjoy their last week of summer vacation, some took the chance to get to know their teachers and walk around their school during open houses this week.
Peterson said she’s ready and excited for school.
“Because I’m going into kindergarten on the first day of fall!” the Spring Lake-area girl exclaimed.
Peterson met her new teacher, Mrs. Highhill, and picked out her locker as other families filled the Spring Lake school's halls with excitement.

First-grader Kyler Dillon, who wore his backpack filled with desk and classroom supplies, said he can’t wait for school to start.
“I get to make new friends,” the 6-year-old said.
Dillon said he hopes his class takes a field trip to the pumpkin patch this year because he had a lot of fun when his kindergarten class attended last year.
His older brother, Brayden, is less enthusiastic about the first day of school next Tuesday. However, the 9-year-old said he hopes to learn about the United States in his fourth-grade class this year.
“Last year, I learned about Michigan, and I want to learn why Alaska became a state,” Brayden said.
