This year’s St. Mary’s Summer Festival has a 5K Fun Run/Walk added to the lineup of activities that take place from noon to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, July 12.
Jennifer Sandy, organizer of the event, said the new run/walk is about fun, exercise, and getting people out and together. Participants can register in advance by contacting the church, or by registering on the day of the event from 7-7:45 a.m. The cost is $25.
The 5K starts at St. Mary’s Catholic School, 421 Exchange St., then follows along the bike path into Ferrysburg, and then back to the school.
Sandy, whose two children attend St. Mary’s School, said the festival is its biggest fundraiser. It helps with reducing tuition costs and provides for scholarships for families who need assistance, technology for the school and planned upgrades.
St. Mary’s students will run some of the games that include throwing darts at balloons. A Knights of Columbus tractor will pull kids on a train around the festival.
“It’s a nice way for kids and the whole family to get involved,” Sandy said.
Throughout the afternoon, participants can check out cars from the Model A Club of Grand Haven from 12-4 p.m. They can feast on roasted pork, turkey, salmon, potatoes and other sides as dine-in or takeout for $9 from 1-7:30 p.m. Adults 21 and older can enjoy the beer tent that will feature live music and adult beverages from noon to 9:30 p.m.
Tickets are available for $500, $1,000 and $10,000 raffles by contacting the church office or purchasing them on the day of the event for $2 each. Participants can also purchase $1 raffle tickets for an “Off the Wall” quilt.
