Award-winning lecture series can be seen locally

The award-winning January Series of Calvin College can be watched at several Lakeshore locations.

The lectures take place Jan. 3 through Jan. 23 at the Covenant Fine Arts Center at Calvin College in Grand Rapids.

Live simulcasts of the series will be fed to Second Christian Reformed Church, 2021 Sheldon Road, Grand Haven; the Frauenthal Center’s Beardsley Theater, 427 W. Western Ave., Muskegon; and Christ Community Church, 595 Graafschap Road, Holland. Admission is free at the remote sites.

The one-hour lectures begin at 12:30 p.m.

The 26th annual January Series will feature a lineup of nationally acclaimed speakers, including three-time Emmy award-winning broadcaster Cokie Roberts, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Sheryl WuDunn and the U.S. Army’s first active-duty blind officer Capt. Scotty Smiley.

The experts will cover a wide range of today’s topics and offer a Christian perspectives on improving immigration policy and why business matters to God. They will also provide an insider’s view of the political climate in Washington, D.C., discuss the history of the inaugural address just days prior to the 2013 Presidential Inauguration and predict what the future of farming will look like as the world population is expected to reach 9 billion in 2050.
