Robert Meyering of Grand Rapids will play Doug Tjapkes in the staged reading of "Justice for Maurice Henry Carter," by Donald Molnar and Alicia Payne of Toronto. Dr. Van H. Washington of Kalamazoo will handle the role of Carter.
The play tells the story of Tjapkes, a Spring Lake Township resident, in his nine-year battle to gain Carter's freedom from prison. Carter served 29 years for a crime that Tjapkes said he did not commit.
The performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, presented by the Calvin Theatre Company in Gezon Auditorium. Admission is free.
