Music, auctions and taste testing are on the menu when the Rotary Club of Grand Haven hosts A D’Vine Event from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Chinook Pier. Tickets are $35.

Money raised during the third annual event will go to the Grand Haven Schools Foundation for a program that helps at-risk kids ages 3-4. Last year's event brought in more than $25,000.

Lana Jacobson, a Grand Haven Rotarian and vice president of the Grand Haven Schools Foundation, said the two organizations working together has helped drive the program's impact. To date, they've raised about $57,000 and provided 70 scholarships through A D’Vine Event and other events.

During Thursday's event, participants may bid on artwork, a trip, sports tickets and more during silent and live auctions as the Fred Knapp Trio plays jazz music.

Grand Haven Rotary President Kelly Larson said they wanted to partner with the school foundation because their at-risk program helps level the playing field for young students who might otherwise lag behind their peers.

“I can’t wait to see how these kids do during their educational careers,” Larson said.

Jacobson said investing in the children is an investment into the community’s future.

“I can’t think of anything more important,” she said.

Sign me up for some wine and food, some scotch would be nice too. Leave the little ones at home, bring Mr. Pepper along if you will and let’s call it a party. It sounds like by the end of the night all the children in the area will be at risk. Nothing like a little mind numbing to loosen the old purse stings ay? Seriously though, send some money for the kids, even if you aren't hungry and don't drink, I know several contributing posters that will be happy to consume your share.
