Getting on M-231?

Scott of Grand Haven Township asked, "What will be the access points to the new M-231 highway? I've heard the only way onto it south of the river is at M-45."

ANSWER:

You're almost right, Scott. There's one more for the limited-access highway now under construction in Robinson and Crockery townships.

"M-45, Lincoln Street and M-104 are the only access points to M-231," said John Richard, spokesman for the Michigan Department of Transportation's Grand Region.

Note the map that Richard supplied us, showing the route and the access points.

From what I understand, you can get on at Lakewood Blvd in Holland, Lake Michigan Dr. just west of the Yellow Jacket, Lincoln St. and the last access south of the river at Green, I am less sure of the points in Nunica but you will be able to join up with 96 in Nunica I believe where the 96, M104 interchange is currently.

bigdeal

M231 doesn't run to Holland (stops @ M45), and I don't see a Green St (Mercury Dr.) access point on the map provided at all. Nor is it stated there is one. Are you privy to information no one else has Wolverine, including the MDOT?

I'm looking at a map the MDOT rep gave us when he told us they were taking our house.
Our house is no longer affected by the project since being "downsized" but not forever. According to the guy from MDOT once the downsized version of the project is finished plans to implement the original scope of the project they've had for 30 years will be added as the money is available, that includes access from Lakewood Blvd all the way to M-96, the on and off ramps at Green are already there along with a bridge. Think about it…trucks are going to drive down M-45 7 miles to get on M231?? Not likely, it may stop there for a time but eventually it will run all the way to the southern part of Holland where it will “by-pass” most of the stop lights.

The route has changed so many times it is hard to keep up with it. Originally it was to run from Holland to Nunica. Here is a bit of history http://www.michiganhighways.org/... It was changed to a 2 lane running from M-45 to Nunica (Worthless). When they built the bridge over Green they did design for an interchange but it looks as though that has changed again. It would be smart to have it there for faster access to Riverside Park and the Gravel Pits. But MDOT knows best.

A guy that is working on the project said there will be access at Green, and it's on the map they gave us but to your point it's been altered so many times, the biggest mistake is the 4 down to 2 lanes making the project nearly pointless, they could have saved lots of money and used 120th if a two lane was all that was needed. Its a strait shot from Holland to the River, just install lights that favor 120th and take out some stop signs and your there.
Maybe they had a lot of money to blow and did so by purchasing lots of property favored to the seller, once they shot the initial wad of money they were forced to make cuts to the project after the funding rug was jerked out from under them so now it's a two lane road with stop signs and a couple lights .
