A second person has been charged in the murder of Muskegon Heights teen last month.

Rhyeim Beasley had previously been charged with lying to police in the murder of Marquis Gresham. On Monday, prosecutors charged him with open murder, saying the new charge is the result of the on-going investigation.

Beasley is being held in the Ottawa County Jail to keep him away from the other man charged in the Gresham murder. Shundarius Lawson was charged April 30 and is being held on $1 million bond.

Police said they were already looking for Lawson when he didn't appear in court for a separate home invasion charge.

Gresham was shot and killed April 23 as he and some friends were walking along Fifth Street in Muskegon Heights to a banquet celebrating the high school basketball team. Gresham was a member of the team that reached the state semifinals.

Muskegon County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Timothy Maat said Tuesday that an investigation revealed Gresham was "standing in the wrong place at the wrong time — that he was an innocent bystander."

So the Wood Street and Mason Gangs are at it again? If the Heights Police Chief Lynne Gill can't make some progress then he should be fired. This case isn't big enough for D.J. Hilson to comment on? D.J. should be front and center on this case. The excuse has been that these are gang members are shooting each other. I believe the last two have been innocent by-standers. Where is the outrage? It seems half of Muskegon is trying to improve itself and then the other half (the Heights) is dragging itself down by its own behavior. Incredibly sad.
