Are you smoking pot? 'Why, yes, I am, officer'

Massachusetts police say a Springfield man blew through a stop sign and also blew a cloud of marijuana smoke when he was pulled over.

An officer enforcing seat belt laws as part of the annual "Click It or Ticket" campaign saw a vehicle drive through a stop sign Tuesday evening. When the driver stopped and rolled down the window, police say, the officer was "covered in a plume of smoke."

Sgt. John Delaney said the officer asked: "Are you smoking marijuana while operating this motor vehicle?"

The driver allegedly responded: "Why, yes, I am, officer."

The 30-year-old driver was scheduled for arraignment Wednesday on charges of operating under the influence of drugs, failure to obey a stop sign, and failure to wear a seat belt.

Most people would try to make up some lame excuse as to why they missed the stop sign. I applaud this guys honesty. Remember, correlation does not imply causation. I'm not sure why this made it into the Tribune.

They had nothing better to report. What did you expect? It's not exactly the New York Times. Or didn't you notice.

Would rather see adults "lighting up" in this beautiful town enjoying our awesome city peacefully than getting hammered drunk, urinating and puking all over downtown and trashing it. Keep the peace!

Right On!!

Could someone please explain to me how this is news for the Grand Haven Tribune? It seems it's not even a full article. Just odd to me that this was in the Tribune. Does nothing else go on in our little town?

Try pulling this stunt in the Tri-Cities. You'd be shot! Kudos to the honesty of this driver. Can't say I don't agree with Creed Bratton. Peace out.

Failure to obey a stop sign, and failure to wear a seat belt.

Duh, hard to get the baggie out of your pocket with the seatbelt on and it was probably a slow roll through the stop sign as he was packing his pipe......just sayin.

So being high and missing a stop sign is far better than being drunk and missing a stop sign?...if loved ones were "T" boned by his highness and killed would you applaud the difference then...."at least they died by a stoner and not a drunk".

GH Cyclist

No one applauded his running of the stop sign or said that the offense was any greater or worse than another. I don't agree or condone operating anything under the influence of drugs or alcohol. If "loved ones" were to be killed by someones stupidity it would certainly be a tragedy and the one at fault should be punished.

my post was in response to a different person who wrote: Would rather see adults "lighting up" in this beautiful town enjoying our awesome city peacefully than getting hammered drunk, urinating and puking all over downtown and trashing it. Keep the peace!

Well, for me, I let out a chuckle. A picture of Cheech & Chong with a reply: "Why, yes, I am, officer." Funny!! Lighten up for a minute. Geez. And for anyone who thinks the GHT is a serious paper, that's really really funny!!

GH Cyclist

Oh, i'll be lighten up in a minute. Ha ha!

Whether or not over conservative right winged Dutch Christian Reformed Grand Haven likes it or not, Michigan is slated next to become the next state to legalize marijuana for recreational use. Now put that in your pipe and smoke it. The times they are a changin'
