Muskegon man charged in bike theft

A 33-year-old Muskegon man arrested for bicycle theft last week has been charged with first-degree retail fraud and jailed on a $25,000 bond.

Buddy Halbert Jr. also faces a charge of habitual offender.

Police said Halbert was on parole at the time of the June 3 incident for receiving and concealing stolen property.

His criminal history includes attempted unarmed robbery, delivery/manufacture of methamphetamine, maintaining a drug lab in the presence of a minor and numerous retail fraud convictions.

Halbert was arraigned Friday in Ottawa County District Court.

The investigation into the theft from the Grand Haven bicycle shop is ongoing.
