The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids issued a flash flood warning in Northern Ottawa County until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Officials said 2-4 inches of ran fell overnight in a band from Norton Shores and Ferrysburg east to Ravenna and Coopersville.

More storms were expected through the morning, adding up to two more inches of rain in the mix.

Grand Haven Township firefighters responded to the 15100 block of Arborwood Drive when a transformer blew about 4 a.m.

“Holy moly! Nothing like an exploding transformer and trees on fire outside the bedroom window,” wrote Laurie Kelley on her Facebook page.

Several area residents communicating on another Facebook page, Grand Haven Informed, reported being without power.

Spring Lake Township firefighters went out at the same time to the 500 block of Boelens Court, for sparking wires in the trees.

Once the second storm hit, Spring Lake firefighters responded to an alarm at Little Lakers Learning Center, 711 E. Savidge.

No problems were found.

Robinson Township firefighters responded to a couple of calls on trees down on power lines around 7:20 and 9 a.m.

Crockery Township firefighters went out at 6:48 a.m. to a home in the d15000 block of 132nd Avenue on a report of a gas smell in the home, possibly due to a nearby lightning strike.

Marne firefighters responded to a barn fire at 8 a.m. on 20th Avenue. Several other fire departments assisted.

Just want to say thank you to the GH TWP. Fire and Consumers for the quick response. Power was restored on Arboorwood at 10 AM. Not so crazy about reporters taking Facebook info and pictures without asking.

If you put information out there, it's available for use. Don't put things on facebook if you don't want viewed or used by others.

jkelley-tell Laurie to go on the settings, then privacy, and put the Tribune on a restricted list. Then they won't see anything that is for friends only.
