The Wolverine Line Amtrak train was heading from Chicago to Pontiac on Monday night at the time of the collision in Galesburg, about 50 miles southeast of Grand Rapids.

Amtrak said 205 people were on the train. No one aboard the train was injured.

Galesburg police Sgt. Jeff Heppler said Tyler Beischl was hit at about 7 p.m. while crossing the tracks near a road crossing that's closed for construction.

“It appears that he never saw the train,” Heppler said.
