Detectives are waiting for the results of the autopsy conducted this morning at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, said Jeff Hawke, director of the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety.

They will attempt to identify the deceased person through forensics.

Detectives also continue to review missing person reports from throughout Michigan for leads on who this person might be, Hawke said.

Police responded to the north shore of the channel, across the river from Waterfront Stadium and the Municipal Marina, at about 9 a.m. Wednesday.

A dredging crew moving their vessel out of the way for an incoming freighter discovered the body floating in the water at that time.

GHDPS officers recovered the body with the assistance of Coast Guard Station Grand Haven and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department Marine Patrol.
