The Shell gas station at 2628 Henry St. was held up shortly after 6 a.m. Norton Shores police said the suspect entered the store’s front door wearing dark clothing and a ski mask over his face, and carrying a dark revolver. The suspect demanded money from the cash register, in which an undisclosed amount of money was taken.

The clerk, a 24-year-old Muskegon Heights man, was then ordered into the back room where cigarettes were loaded into a back pack.

Police said the clerk feared for his safety, so he pulled out his own handgun and started firing at the suspect. The clerk fired approximately 10 rounds inside of the store as the robber fled out the front door without returning fire.

It is unknown at this time if the suspect was hit by any of the shots.

The suspect jumped into the passenger’s seat of a newer model black four-door Chevrolet, which was parked on the north end of the building. There was a second suspect driving the vehicle, but no description was obtained.

The vehicle left east on Sherman Boulevard.

The suspect was further described as a black male, approximately 6 feet tall, with a thin but muscular build.

Police have released a video from the store surveillance camera that shows the robbery and the clerk shooting at the suspect. CLICK HERE to see it.

Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to call Silent Observer at 231-722-7463 or the Norton Shores Police Department at 231-733-2691.

Body armor and side-arms should be standard company issue for the folks that work these jobs. Unfortunately this person will most likely be fired - like the nightshift pharmacist in Benton Harbor a while back.

Its a safety and life or death issue. I would carry and wear the armor anyway without tell the bosses. With the wages they pay - so what, those jobs are a dime a dozen. Fire me all they want. Interesting twist of words though. Get fired from your lousy cashier job or get fired upon by a crook. Fired (from job) - Fired (at). Interesting?

so if the government just gave everybody everything for free there would be no robberies and no need for guns right Lanivan ?

That's silly boycotter. It's clear that the core issue is the purchase of face masks and hoodies.

So outlaw ski masks and hoodies? clearly you have racial connotations implied in your comment . . .

That was the rationale for murdering Trayvon - Fear of Hoodie. Now that I think about it, I should probably get rid of the ski mask laying around here someplace along with the mittens, and my many hoodies (except the one with the rhinestones - I'm keeping that beauty)

That could have been Barry Obama Jr or even Klondike Jenny in that Hoodie.
