The owners of Vanderwall Brothers Concrete Products, 19156 174th Ave., called 911 at 2:45 p.m. when they saw several people in the company’s gated property gathering scrap metal. Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies identified three of the four people as Muskegon County residents.

Capt. Mark Bennett said the suspects were cooperative and verified that they were trying to steal the scrap metal.

The case remains under investigation by Sheriff’s Department detectives, and will be turned over to the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office for potential charges, Bennett said. He said the attempted theft could be related to other scrap metal thefts in the area.

Four people were caught in the act of attempted larceny and from what the article says, were not arrested and lodged in the Ottawa County jail? What did the deputies do, take their names and tell them not to leave town since they might be arrested?

Was the 4th person from Ottawa county and coerced by the 3 from Muskegon.
