A motorcycle T-boned a Ford Focus when the Focus apparently didn't yield right of way to the motorcyclist, who was driving westbound on Slayton.

The driver of the Focus told police she looked, but didn't see anyone and proceeded through the intersection.

The motorcyclist was talking and EMS workers transported him via ambulance to the hospital for injuries. The driver of the car was also checked for injuries.

The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.

Police said the driver of the car would be ticketed for failure to yield right-of-way.

Every bikers nightmare... pay attention ppl... we are out there too.

Rmg

Let me start by saying that I agree that everyone needs to pay attention for bikers... But, This biker was also heard revving his bike excessively just prior to the accident... If he was going the posted 25mph he would not have done the damage to that car. Just saying. I am glad this one has ended with no life threatening injuries!

So calibrated ears able to detect speed infractions have determined the accident was due to the motorcycle speeding? It may be so but the accident is due to a driver looking but not seeing before proceding into the intersection. I've had a couple this year already who seemed to be looking right at me and pulled out in front of me, lights on, wearing bright clothes and on a bright red bike.

You should come down to Jackson Street in Grand Haven and watch the fancy bike,s come in off the highway heading toward,s downtown, my god the noise and racket, it,s a drag way for the out of towners, the summer isnt over yet !!!

Miwheels

Miwheels

He's was going speed limit it's a ford focus and at 25 that's the Damage that would happen to the door

Us bikers are small compared to cars, we are constantly on the look out for all the idiots on the road. But when the idiots on the road are too busy on their phone or gps or just out driving not paying attention....this is what happens. I've been almost run off the road while on my motorcycle because an elderly couple (that shouldn't be driving) cut 5 lanes over from the opposite side of the road and pinned me between their minivan and the curb. Ride a motorcycle RMG then you'll see how other vehicles treat us bikers.

jlebrasseur

Us bicyclists deal with the same crap on a daily basis. No enforcement of the bad/distracted/texting/aggressive drivers by police.

Nobody seems to realize that despite being on four wheels, or just two, we are still people with families and friends that we try to come home to every night.

And yes, RMG, a motorcycle hitting a car at 25mph (or even much less) will easily cause that amount of damage.

Police ticketed driver.

Okay first of all he was not at fault, the other driver failed to yeild, pay attention. Also he was revving his bike for a little neighbor boy whos 7 because he thinks its fun and cool. Unless he was going over the sound ordinance (which he wasnt) than he was not doing a thing wrong.

TheBee

You can say that again.

Thanks.

Glad to hear this wasn't a motorcycle fatality! Sick of hearing about those and yes I do know that it isn't always the car/trucks fault that some motorcyclists aren't as aware as others. Being a full time passenger on a motorcycle I am definitely always on the lookout for someone traveling too close behind or crossing the lines a lot. And I know that my husband (the driver) is even more aware of everything going on than I am. Everyone needs to look out for motorcyclists because we are more vulnerable than someone in a vehicle.

Rmg

I have lost enough friends and relatives to bike accidents that I still think I know what I'm talking about. Just because I don't own motorcycle currently, does not mean I've never ridden. Riding like an idiot to show off does not mean you are not at fault too...

ipml

Rmg...just shut up! You are going to loose more friends posting things like this! Listen...revving the engine doesn't mean the bike is moving...sounds like the little boy likes the revving sound

Rmg

There is a difference between being a responsible biker and what this guy did... My point from the first comment was that I was glad there was no loss of life... And that ALL drivers should be aware of there surroundings... Driving a crotch rocket carelessly does not automatically provide one with sympathy, beyond loss of life of course.

ipml

Let me state this again...just shut up...not doing yourself any favors here...you should have started and stopped with this..."I was glad there was no loss of life".

Rmg

Not going to shut up when the facts have been brought out from eyewitnesses... Get the whole story before you blindly defend someone... And to point this out as well, I did not start this BS attack on me! You dillweeds did!

Say no to new taxes

I really love riding a motorcycle, but it's just become to dangerous to continue. Distracted drivers playing with their ipod, texting, dialing a phone number, putting on makeup, eating triple burgers with the wrapper blocking their vision etc. I've seen bikes get sideswiped, hit from behind at stoplights, saw a guy get killed when a car pulled out in front of him when he was less then 25ft from the offending vehicle. If you choose to ride, please wear a helmet. It really helps increase you odds for survival in a crash.

Many of the intersections in GH need to have the tree nearest to the intersection removed. Many have grown so large you can not see cars or motorcycles from the left or right.

Miwheels

Rmg u have no idea !

gordbzz231

Looks like there was plenty of witnesses

TheBee

Quite the buzz on this subject.

Rmg

Pretty sure miwheels & ipml are just trying to pick a fight... I have ridden, and owned, and lost from motorcycle accidents... And i admit 90% of car vs motorcycle accidents are the car's fault. That does not instantly mean the car is at fault. If it was then great, but I based my statement on what I was told by the officer & eyewitnesses. That is all I have to say on the subject...

Interestedreader

What happens when we get self driving cars, who would be at fault in a similar situation?

TheBee

Baby Jesus.

Howard191

The car was at fault apparently, the motorcycle operator was revving his engine, not sure how the noise ordinance is written, but it must be close to illegal to repeatedly rev your engine in a neighborhood setting. Two wrongs don't make a right. And while I'm on the subject, yes cars are a danger to bikes (all kinds) but I have seen several cyclists acting like the roads are their personal racetrack.
