Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies, including a K-9 unit, and Grand Haven Township Fire/Rescue reported to the preserve off the end of Sleeper Street at about 2:13 p.m.

Units also stationed at Hofma Park off Ferris Street, as the preserve and the park connect through a series of trails.

Ottawa County Central Dispatch stayed on the telephone with the women – one, whom they said was age 94 – until they were found.

The women were carrying water as they hiked through the wooded area in 80-degree weather.

Dispatchers used the GPS signal from the caller’s cell phone to help police and firefighters locate the women, who were in an area north of Bittersweet.

Officials sounded an air horn to help the women find them.

An officer from Grand Haven Township/Fire Rescue reported he was on the scene with the women at 2:31 p.m.
