Police said the 42-year-old man from the east side of the state was visiting the Holland area this week to kayak on Lake Michigan. The man left the Holland pier to kayak south toward Saugatuck when the fog rolled in, and he became disoriented approximately two miles south of the Holland pier.

The man had a cellphone with him, in which he used to call 911 at about 1:20 p.m. Sgt. Cal Keuning of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department said a deputy on a patrol boat used the boat’s siren to signal the man, who in turn used a whistle to signal the officer.

The police boat returned the man safely to Lake Macatawa.

Did the carnival riff-raff help themselves to Lani's kayak? The only reason I ask is that I heard that the guy MacGyvered a whistle using an empty Malbec bottle. That's just what I heard.

Leave it to Barry to turn a traumatic and potentially tragic event into an alleged farcical, inappropriate prank, delusionally and non-rationally silly - except for the empty Malbec bottle, of course.

It seems I've disappointed you yet again. I figured this was the Parade of Ships kayaker merely getting his comeuppance.

May I offer you a choice of t-shirts?

Way to over dramatize this "event", I don't read where he was traumatized or ever in any kind of danger; hell I get disoriented after my 4th, or is it my 5th; well anyway it's not a big deal.

Oh, go for the second shirt.

Wonder if it was the same guy that wouldn't get his kayak from out between the pier heads during the Parade of Ships on Monday.
