Princess Warren, 27, of Muskegon Heights, was in critical condition at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids following the 6:17 a.m. crash, said Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.
The driver of the 2008 Dodge Dakota pickup truck, Donald Richardson, 59, of Grand Haven, suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital.
He was wearing his seatbelt and was proceeding with a green light, police said.
Austin said Warren was involved in a shoplifting incident at Meijer, 15000 U.S. 31, just prior to the crash.
She was fleeing the scene in her 2004 Chrysler Sebring when the crash occurred at the intersection of Comstock Street and 172nd Avenue. Witnesses said she was driving without her headlights on.
Her southbound car entered the intersection and was struck in the driver’s side door by the red pickup truck, which was traveling west on Comstock.
Warren was unconscious and pinned inside her vehicle, Austin said.
She was extricated by Grand Haven Township Fire/Rescue, transported by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital, and immediately transferred by Aero Med helicopter to Spectrum Health.
Austin said police are “currently processing the car and items and working with Meijers in the investigation.”
“Most of the items appear to be loads of clothes,” he said.
The incident remains under investigation.
