Emergency workers rushed to the scene of the crash at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday. They took both David Robert Pierson, 51, and one of the teens, Samantha Brown, 17, of Hudsonville, to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital with serious injuries.

Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Koster said that crash occurred after a vehicle driven by Jenna Easterley, 18, of Jenison, had pulled off the eastbound lane of Port Sheldon Road to check her GPS unit.  She pulled too far off the road, however, and went into the ditch.

Her passenger, Brown, got out of the car to talk with Pierson, who had stopped to see if the girls needed help.  As Brown and Pierson talked on the driver’s side of Easterley’s car, another vehicle slammed into the three of them.

That vehicle was driven by Jeremy Vedders, 22, of Hudsonville. He was also driving east and told police that he didn’t see the car or people until after he struck them. Koster noted that there were no lights on Easterley’s car at the time of the crash.

Neither Vedders nor Easterley suffered injuries in the collision, but Pierson and Brown were both sent to Spectrum with injuries. Brown was treated and released from the hospital, but Pierson later died.

Friends reached out to Pierson’s family members through social media after word of the crash spread.  Lisa Bos wrote that she was thinking about Pierson’s loved ones, and noted that “Life can change so quickly.”  Jason and Katie Brewer wrote, “Praying for you and your family.”

Capt. Steve Kempker said the crash remains under investigation.

Terrible tragedy...thoughts and prayers to all the families involved. What is so interesting is that all the names of those involved were released and YET an accident that killed 2 people on a motorcycle in Allegan county 2 months ago...have never released the name of the young woman driving the car that killed these 2 innocent people. Why not??? Her name should have been released by now...don't get it!!

Its just terrible that bad things always happen to good people. Guys like Pierson are the most grieved over and get tons of flowers over their graves. Have known a minimal few like him - they have the hardest times finding good jobs and always get the lousy temp ones, their kids usually have life threatening illness and disabilities and sometimes suffer excruciating pains of illnesses and cramps. Cars are always junk, clothes are worn and 2nd hand, but they still smile and serve. Total opposite of the ones I write about next. The phony deacons, lying leadership, narcissistic pastoral staff out there along with fake plastic church members. OH NO! HECK NO ! ! they get no troubles. They get the best jobs that just fall from the sky with minimal effort in their searches and those jobs have great pay, great time off deals with family and bonuses. Their kids are always born beautiful, talented and healthy. They walk away miraculously from plane crashes, nasty car wrecks and bounce back un scathed from various cancers. They live to be 90 without a single health glitch and minimal pains and never get sick or diabetes or suffer from excruciating cramps. They get thrown into leadership positions automatically when they go from church to church over 20 years. It just all sucks that nothing ever happens to those nasty fake people in the church who are just indifferent and narcissistic, they are always there in every service making things miserable and nothing bad ever happens to them. Pierson will be painfully missed every day, seen several like him just wiped off the Earth like they never existed.

Maybe you should go to church if things are that much better.

Sounds like he was raised Catholic.
