Police said Gregory Jay Folkert of Wyoming was driving east on I-196 in Georgetown Township when his 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer left the roadway at the interchange with M-6. Folkert, 46, was thrown from his car when it slammed into the concrete overpass.

Folkert was not wearing his seat belt, said Capt. Steve Kempker of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ottawa County medical examiner.

Kempker said the cause for the Lancer to leave the roadway has yet to be determined. The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department.
