Joseph Arpin appeared Wednesday in Grand Rapids federal court, three months after pleading guilty to online enticement. Prosecutors say there were multiple sexual encounters.

The mother of a 12-year-old Allegan County girl reported her missing in October 2013, saying she climbed out a bedroom window to be with Arpin.

Authorities say he drove across the country from San Jacinto, Calif.

Police eventually found them at a convenience store in Crestwood, Mo.

Defense lawyer Chris Gibbons said Arpin is remorseful and admits he "crossed social, moral and legal boundaries."
