Two children were injured in a two-vehicle crash late Monday afternoon near Marne, police said. The children were in a minivan driven by Isabel Garcia-Larios, 34, of Conklin, which was struck by a car as it passed through the intersection of Arthur Street and Eighth Avenue about 4:12 p.m., according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department.

Police said Mathew Philip Russell, 24, of Coopersville was driving his 1997 Chevrolet Lumina west on Arthur, stopped for the stop sign at Eighth Avenue, then proceeded into the intersection where he struck the van. The van spun sideways, ejecting one child in a booster seat in the third seat of the minivan, police said.

Donny Parada, 5, was taken by ambulance to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, where he was treated and discharged, a hospital spokesperson said this morning.

Another passenger, 11-month-old Gardinia Parada, who was in a child seat in the middle of the second seat in the van, was not responding properly to paramedics, police said. She was also taken to Spectrum Butterworth and was discharged, the spokesperson said.

Garcia-Larios was also taken to the hospital for treatment of a hand injury and was released.

One other adult and another child in the van were not injured.

The accident is still under investigation, police said.
