A Lansing fire official said a man was killed in an apartment fire after refusing a neighbor’s plea to escape.
The fire was reported about 1:30 p.m. Thursday at a 16-unit, two-story apartment building near the Ingham Regional Medical Center. The fire was limited to the single unit and was quickly extinguished.
Fire Capt. Maggie Murphy told the Lansing State Journal that a neighbor knocked on the man’s door when he heard a smoke detector, but the man wouldn’t leave.
The victim’s name hasn’t yet been released.
