Holland Twp. man arrested for fleeing accident

A 26-year-old Holland Township man is in custody after allegedly hitting a telephone pole in Holland Township on Sunday morning and fleeing the scene of the accident, leaving his passenger behind, police said. The driver hit a pole at the corner of Brookdale and Briarwood drives at 2:51 a.m., said Ottawa County Sheriff's Sgt. Keith Garvelink. A 28-year-old Holland Township woman was in the front passenger seat, Garvelink said, and declined medical treatment for her injuries. The accident brought down the telephone pole, knocking out power in the area.

After further investigation, the driver, whose name is being withheld pending arraignment, was arrested later Sunday morning, Garvelink said. He is being held in the Ottawa County Jail on charges including a parole violation, driving on a suspended license and fleeing the scene of an accident.
