Bomb scare at Grand Haven HS leads to precautionary fire drill

A bomb threat discovered in a bathroom at Grand Haven High School Thursday morning turned out to be empty, according to the school principal. Ottawa County Sheriff's deputies investigated a threat written on a girls restroom stall that implied a bomb would explode in the high school at noon, said Scott Grimes, principal of the high school. The message was written over, as if the writer changed his or her mind, Grimes said. "We determined that it was non-credible,' he said. As a precaution, students were evacuated for a fire drill at 11:55 a.m., he said.

“By law we have to do fire drills, so we just counted this as one of our regular fire drills,” Grimes said. A letter was sent home to parents explaining the incident, he added.

No suspects have been identified as of yet, Grimes said, and police and school officials are still investigating.

Members of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office could not be reached at press time.
