Holland police looking for suspicious man

Holland police are looking for a man who they said tried to persuade a child to get into his van early Sunday evening. Two children age 10 and a third age 8 were selling lemonade at a stand near the intersection of Diekema and 17th streets in Holland when a man stopped and began a conversation with them. At one point, police said the man asked one of the kids to get into his van. The subject was then approached and confronted by the kids' father, and the suspect got into his van and left.

The suspect was described as an Hispanic male approximately 20-30 years old who wore glasses. He was wearing shorts, a yellow shirt and baseball cap, and was heard only speaking Spanish.

The vehicle was described as a red or burgundy minivan, possibly an early 1990s model. The rear window was tinted and the passenger-side front door was a different shade of red/burgundy than the rest of the vehicle.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to contact the Holland Department of Public Safety at 616-355-1100 or Silent Observer at 877-88-SILENT.
