Grand Rapids man injured after rolling his SUV

A Grand Rapids man is listed in fair condition at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital after losing control of his sport utility vehicle on Interstate 96 in Ottawa County. Bishop Pennington, 41, was driving west at about 2:45 a.m. Saturday when he lost control of his 2005 Pontiac Aztec and went into the interstate's median, said Ottawa County Sheriff's Sgt. Brian Buter. Pennington's SUV rolled over several times. Pennington was pinned in his vehicle and emergency crews used the Jaws of Life to free him.

Eastbound I-96 was shut down for about 30 minutes so an AeroMed helicopter could use it as a landing pad. Pennington then was flown to the Grand Rapids hospital.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, Buter said.
