Police say mechanical problem caused cycle crash

Police said a mechanical problem is likely to blame for a motorcycle crash that seriously injured a Hudsonville man on Friday night. Anthony VanDyke, 20, was riding west on Chicago Drive near Port Sheldon Street in Georgetown Township just before 6:30 p.m. when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into the median, said Sgt. John Wolffis Wolffis of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. VanDyke was thrown from his motorcycle.

Rescuers took VanDyke to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids with multiple injuries, Wolffis said. An update on his condition was not available this morning.

Investigators believe a mechanical problem with the motorcycle’s front wheel caused the crash, and neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors, Wolffis said.
