2-car crash on Saturday puts 3 in hospital

Three people were injured after two vehicles struck each other head-on Saturday morning in Ottawa County's Tallmadge Township, police said. Keith Lewis Marvin, 22, was driving east on Leonard Street, west of 24th Avenue, when the Cedar Springs man swerved his car into oncoming traffic to avoid a vehicle that had slowed down to turn left, said Sgt. Kevin Allman of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. Marvin's car struck a vehicle driven by 74-year-old Sheila Marie Wittebols of Saranac.

The collision caused both cars to leave the road and left Marvin trapped in his car, Allman said.

After being removed by firefighters, Marvin was taken to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids with a serious head injury, but has since been discharged, according to a hospital official.

Wittebols and a passenger in her car, 19-year-old Kathleen Mary McIntyre of South Glastonbury, Conn., were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.
Wittebols was treated for serious internal injuries and was listed in good condition this morning, according to a hospital official. McIntyre was treated and released for chest injuries.
