Police say suspicious male approached children

Police are looking for a man in a red pickup truck who approached two children on Friday afternoon in Park Township. The children, ages 6 and 10, were just dropped off by a school bus and walking near the intersection of Bower Street and Breeze Drive shortly before 4:30 p.m. That's when a man approached them in a late-model Chevy or GMC extended-cab pickup and asked them how their day was, said Sgt. Brent Converse of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. Aside from asking them if they had any homework, the man made no other comments or gestures, and drove off.

The man is described as a white male in his 60s with a bushy beard. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Silent Observer at 877-887-4536 or submit an anonymous tip at www.mosotips.com.

Parents should remind their children about the dangers of talking to strangers, and reporting incidents such as these to an adult, Converse said.
