SL woman sentenced to prison for deadly crash

A Spring Lake woman who investigators said caused a deadly crash last year will spend up to 28 years in prison. Muskegon County Circuit Judge Timothy Hicks on Monday sentenced 39-year-old Kristine Ann Hitsman Wahmhoff to 11-and-a-half to 28 years in prison for driving while under the influence of alcohol, causing death; and 7-20 years for driving with a suspended license, causing death, according to court officials. She will serve the sentencing terms concurrently. Wahmhoff was also fined more than $1,200.

Wahmhoff pleaded no contest to the charges last month, according to WZZM-TV.

Police said Wahmhoff was speeding when she lost control and rolled off northbound U.S. 31, near Russell Road in Muskegon County, in October 2010. A passenger in her car, 37-year-old Guadalupe Hernandez of Spring Lake, died when she was thrown from the car.
