Three injured in crash Saturday morning on I-196

Three people were injured in a one-car accident early Saturday morning on Interstate 196, according to Sgt. John Ditmar of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. Victoria Schreur, 19, of Hudsonville, and two passengers in her car - Alicia VanderWall, 18, of Zeeland; and Kati Wiersema, 18, of Byron Center - were taken by ambulance to area hospitals after the 7 a.m. incident. All were in good condition, Ditmar said.

Schreur was driving east on I-196 in a heavy rainstorm when she lost control of her 2004 Chevrolet Impala, Ditmar said. The car traveled off the south side of the road and struck several trees before coming to rest with the passenger side against a tree.

Georgetown Township Fire Rescue and the Georgetown Township E-Unit responded to the scene, along with the OCSD and AMR Ambulance.
