Man dies in Muskegon-area house fire early today

One man is dead after a house fire in Muskegon Township this morning. The fire in the 3400 block of East Apple Avenue started about 3 a.m. Three people were in the home at the time, police said, and two who were downstairs were able to get out safely because their dog woke them up. A man in his 30s, who was upstairs, was not able to get out of the burning house. Firefighters tried to rescue him through an upstairs window, but the window was too small. Firefighters think the fire started in the living room sofa and spread quickly.

One man is dead after a house fire in Muskegon Township this morning.

The fire in the 3400 block of East Apple Avenue started about 3 a.m. Three people were in the home at the time, police said, and two who were downstairs were able to get out safely because their dog woke them up.

A man in his 30s, who was upstairs, was not able to get out of the burning house. Firefighters tried to rescue him through an upstairs window, but the window was too small.

Firefighters think the fire started in the living room sofa and spread quickly.
