Authorities work to ID skeletal remains in K'zoo County

Authorities said they're still working to identify skeletal remains of a woman found in April at a vacant property in southwestern Michigan. The Kalamazoo Gazette and the Battle Creek Enquirer reported that the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department on Thursday said that the remains found April 28 in Comstock Township near Kalamazoo weren't those of three missing area women.

Officials said they’re not remains of Tammie Briley of Mattawan, Mary Lands of Marshall or Venus Stewart. Briley was 37 when reported missing in 2000. Lands was 39 when she disappeared in 2004.Stewart was 32 when she disappeared in 2010 from St. Joseph County.

Authorities believe the remains are that of a woman between the ages of 35 and 55. A cause of death hasn’t been determined.
