Allendale man critical after bike hit by car on M-45

An Allendale man was hospitalized in critical condition after turning his bicycle into the path of a car on M-45 near 96th Avenue this morning. Harold Yonker, 76, was taken by ambulance to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids following the 8:45 a.m. accident, according to Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. Manders suffered minor injuries from broken windshield glass and was treated at the scene, Austin said.

Yonker was unconscious and not breathing, so CPR was initiated, Austin said. Yonker was breathing on his own when taken by Life Ambulance to the hospital.

The incident remains under investigation.
